More detailed bio.
The bands that make up Patrick Tevlin Music are:
- The Happy Pals are a Toronto Institution, playing authentic old-time New Orleans jazz party music. They’ve been featured every Saturday at Toronto’s legendary Grossman’s Tavern for over forty years, and have attracted literally generations of fans. The music is stomping “revival” jazz from the Preservation Hall period, mixing jazz classics with tunes by Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and others. The Happy Pals tour festivals in Europe every summer.
- Tevlin Swing is a small hot dance group featuring trumpeter/saxophonist Patrick Tevlin, leader of Toronto’s Happy Pals; one of Toronto's finest young singers, Hannah Archibald (aka Hannah Krapivinsky); Toronto's Alex Stringer on guitar; and the very versatile Lucas Gadke on string bass. As desired, Tevlin Swing can be enlarged to include clarinet, drums, piano, you name it.
- Toronto’s Magnolia Brass Band, founded by Tevlin and Kid Bastien in 1980 is a street band often seen in parades around the Toronto area, and annually in New Orleans’ French Quarter Festival. And yes, they do play at funerals.
- The Patrick Tevlin Blues Band brings Patrick Tevlin on horns and vocals together with an all-star rhythm section playing New Orleans Blues and R&B in the classic tradition of Fats Domino and Ray Charles. It's a bluesy, grindy gumbo of new and old tunes, that'll make you boogie-real-slow, right through the Mississippi night.
